We're deeply excited about this and we hope you have picked up a copy (so to speak). You can buy "Dream Get Together" online or at your local record store, and remember that the vinyl comes with a download code, so no need to debate the merits of the CD versus the 12" record. You can have it all! Third, thanks to all the amazing musicians who participated in the Dream Get Together project! You know who you are...and I hope everyone enjoyed that little porthole into the fantasy lives of your favorite musicians. We have LOTS of shows and tours coming up and we're intensely excited about all of it. The next show is here in San Francisco as part of the NOISE POP festival. This is our first time playing Noise Pop and we couldn't be more psyched. We'll be playing on Thursday, February 25th with genius singer/songwriter/thrasher Scout Niblett, Oakland psych hero Greg Ashley, and Tape Deck Mountain. DREAM GET TOGETHER #16- FOREIGN BORN Buddy Guy's bass player from the Festival Express tour, Sonny Sharrock on guitar, Mitch Mitchell on drums and Ron Burgundy table dancing, laying down some ham and eggs on his jazz flute. The band would be called "Baby Making Music." We would hope this get together would deliver on it's awesome potential - combining improvised music with advanced dance technique and sexual advice. -Matt Popieluch, Foreign Born Foreign Born's current album is called "Person to Person" and came out in July of 2009 on Secretly Canadian. More info is available HERE. Friday, January 29, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #15- RICHARD SWIFT It's been a long long day in the studio. Don Van Vliet (aka Captain Beefheart) is having a hard time making this cover song work the way he wants it to. Not just anyone can cover Bob Dylan's "Ballad of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest", and Don realizes this. He's got to get the right players on the track. "Where's my goddamn rotadex?!?!" he screams. Finally, after a bit of searching, his co-producer, Brian Eno, brings him the rotadex. "K.... K.... where in the hell is Erkin Koray's number?!?!", his growl of a voice filling the control room. "While I'm looking up this number Brian, get Aretha and Vashti to drop what they're doing and get over here!" he screams. "OK Don, calm down, I'll do it...no need to get mad", Brian answers. "No need to get mad? NO NEED TO GET MAD!?!", his face turning red, "We've got 2 hours to get this track down, and all we have that's usable so far is Howlin Wolf's harmonica track, the Creation's clap tracks, a little bit of Moondog's stomps on the second verse, and some of Robert Pete Williams' guitar on the intro!!!!" Don takes a deep breathe. "I don't even know how I'm gonna tell Miles that his trumpet solo is completely unusable now that Sly wrote that horn part for the ending...". "Well Don...", Brian says, "... we could always do what you wanted to do in the first place and just call The Band." -RICHARD SWIFT Richard Swift's latest album, "The Atlantic Ocean," is out now with more info available HERE. Thursday, January 28, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #14- FRESH N' ONLYS Vini Reilly and Kath Bloom recording with a Tascam 388 isolated on the Gulf Coast of Florida. The only guest musicians being Emmett Kelly on guitar and Antony doing backing vocals. The music written entirely on location except for a cover of Smoke's "Pretend". I would engineer even though I have no idea how to. -SHAYDE, THE FRESH N' ONLYS See the Fresh n Onlys' tour dates and listen to their music HERE. Wednesday, January 27, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #13- CITAY The Boredoms playing, Scott Walker singing, The Bomb Squad producing, with Christian Marclay on turntables, Marc Ribot on lead guitar, and Charles Ives conducting his own live string arrangements. Oh, and Ezee Tiger running in place, or whatever.- CITAY's JOSH POLLOCK Ann & Nancy Wilson, Joan Armatrading, The Roches, Christine McVie, and Linda Thompson are visiting Pompeii. They've never been to the ancient volcanic amphitheater and they survey the area with varying degrees of interest. Ann & Nancy are especially taken with the majesty of the space. They buy togas at the gift shop and act out parts of "Oedipus Rex." LInda is impressed with Ann & Nancy's ability to recite Sophocles with such aplomb, but otherwise she's bored and reading Lorrie Moore short stories in the shade. The Roches keep asking everyone if they want to jam but no one is into it. Joan cracks jokes about "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and follows the audio tour. Christine naps. Soon a school bus arrives. Then another, and another, and another. Hundreds of people of all ages, shapes sizes, cultures, and creeds come streaming out, each one holding an acoustic guitar. They all sit in a perfect circle. One hands Joan an Ovation guitar. Someone else hands Nancy an Ovation guitar. Someone else hands Suzzy Roche an Ovation guitar. The entire group take in a deep breath. And then, together, all start playing the opening notes to "Wish You Were Here." The lyric "we're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl" lifts everyone way up high in the sky. The song ends, and soon they are all home. - CITAY's EZRA FEINBERG Citay's Dream Get Together is out today on CD and LP. Order the album HERE. Tuesday, January 26, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #12- THE WELCOME WAGON Phoebe Snow fronting the Band. Snow can be the age she is now, that's fine. But Manuel and Danko would be alive of course, and Robertson and Helm would not be venomous towards one another. I love Phoebe Snow's first record so much, but all the rest of the records I've heard of hers have suffered from poor production and poor song selection. I think she's still a great singer, and it's not as if I'm interested in hearing her sing "Poetry Man" again. But neither am I interested in hearing her sing "Lightning Crashes" again either. So I'd guess the Band would hold her to pretty high standards all around. And it'd be nice to hear them play with a strong woman, such a boys club that they were. Maybe they'd make a two-disc set over a month, one set of folk and blues covers, and the other a collection of originals. And we could imagine that those originals would emanate not solely from Robbie Robertson (as per latter-Band records), but from the whole of them. Maybe they'd open the old Bottom Line back up for the record release show. -VITO AIUTO, THE WELCOME WAGON The Welcome Wagon's new album Welcome To The Welcome Wagon is now out on Asthmatic Kitty Records. You can find more info on The Welcome Wagon HERE. Monday, January 25, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #11- STEVE MCBEAN Runhild Gammelsæter (from Thorr's Hammer) on vocals, Bubba Dupree (from Void) on guitar, Chronos (from Venom) on bass, and Keith Moon on drums jamming Sunshine of Your Love in my living room while I eat nachos and watch Seinfeld with the sound off. They stop playing half way through when they realize it's the bubble boy episode.- STEVE McBEAN BLACK MOUNTAIN/ PINK MOUNTAINTOPS Steve McBean is the guitarist and lead singer for both Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops. For more on Black Mountain you can check out there website HERE, and for more on Pink Mountaintops go HERE. Friday, January 22, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #10- BISHOP ALLEN Elvis sings for the Velvet Underground. Crooning out not just "Sweet Jane," but "Heroin" and "White Light White Heat." The Velvet Elvis? The Elvis Underground? Maybe The Velvet Elvis Underground.- JUSTIN RICE, BISHOP ALLEN Bishop Allen is currently working on the follow-up to their 2009 release Grrr... and will be touring in the Midwest in February. You can find more info on Bishop Allen HERE. Thursday, January 21, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #9- NICOLE ATKINS My dream musical get together would be to sing in four part harmonies and trade off vocals with Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Nina Simone with Pink Floyd as our backing band. - NICOLE ATKINS You can find more info and music from Nicole Atkins HERE. Wednesday, January 20, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #8- SUCKERS I am locked up in a cage of Gibraltar; surrounded by an infinite rack of drums and cymbals. I'm drenched in a pool of sweat, beating out the rhythms to "Livin on a Prayer". As we heat up to the impossibly catchy pre-chorus (We gotta hoooooold on, to what we got) I rip out of my tattered white tank top and effortlessly crack another Vic Firth. Meanwhile, Tommy Lee is wailing away on his own set, providing double duty for the hungry crowd. This gives me the golden opportunity to do what every drummer dreams of : to depart from his own cage of thunder. I stride up to center stage wearing nothing but black black jeans and boots. I am just in time for the epic wave of chorus that is about to ensue. Out of the front row V.I.P. section, I fish out a leather jacketed Madonna and we both launch into a hotter-than-hell chorus. We nail a heavenly harmony as she sweatily holds the Vics in my back pocket....... -BRIAN AIKEN, SUCKERS You can find out more about Suckers HERE. Tuesday, January 19, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #7- MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO. "It's February 14, 1970, and I'm at the University of Leeds, watching the Who destroy everyone with their amazing live rendition of Tommy during their performance which would result, later, in Live at Leeds. We all think the show is over and, out of nowhere, an older man they say has "traveled here from the future" joins them onstage. Pete Townsend says, winded, "Normally we would stop playing now, but this gentleman came a long way, and we love his songs. His name's Robert Pollard, and this one's called 'Game of Pricks.'" Daltrey swings his mic wildly, while Pollard high kicks and wails over the best band he could have ever hoped would play his songs. They do a new one called "Won't Get Fooled Again," Daltrey and Pollard singing the end together. Their version of "Motor Away" brings tears to the Melody Maker critic's eye. Three hours later and The Who have been onstage for five and a half hours. They end with "Armenia, City in the Sky" which glides seamlessly into something the man from the future calls "Tractor Rape Chain." The song ends, Moon destroys his kit, and they all bow together. All of a sudden this Pollard character disappears and we all know that the future has had to take him back." -JASON GROTH is one of the guitarists in Magnolia Electric Co, who released Josephine in 2009. His band The Coke Dares just finished a new EP called The Yellow Ages, which is available HERE and, soon enough, at your favorite independent record store. Monday, January 18, 2010
DREAM GET TOGETHER #6- HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF My dream band would consist of Otis Redding, John Lennon, and Irma Thomas, backed by the Band. No one can deny the raw genius of Otis Redding, a young man who sang like he was on the verge of death and as we know only lived till the age of 26 and yet managed to leave behind legendary work. I think Otis and John would have gotten along musicially I'm sure, John would provide great harmonies and could get down for a white boy from Liverpool. I bet he'd be in total awe of Otis and it'd probably cause him to write some beautiful soul songs. Irma Thomas, (the soul queen of New Orleans for those who don't know) could provide some sultry vocals and the combination of her and Otis would for sure bring grown men to weep and tear down the house. Tie this all up with the Band holding it down behind them and I think the world might just combust. - ALYNDA LEE SEGARRA, HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF Hurray for the Riff Raff is fronted by Alynda Lee Segarra, and is based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. Their new record "Young Blood Blues" is coming out in January. You can check out more at their website HERE or on Myspace HERE Friday, January 15, 2010

DREAM GET TOGETHER #4- THE ANTLERS Beth Gibbons of Portishead and Mark Hollis of Talk Talk singing some sort of call and response duet. Neither one of their voices really lend themselves to harmonizing, but they both sound so unique and full of struggle that they should absolutely sing together. - PETER SILBERMAN, THE ANTLERS The Antlers new album "Hospice" is now out on French Kiss Records.
